I printed out a smaller version of the poster when I pitched my project at the awesome shit club earlier this week! It was pretty cool to see it come "to life." The final version of the posters should be available by the middle of the month, barring unforeseen circumstances!
Instead of having a faux grey background, I am planning to print them on flecked paper, and 18x24 (so no weird white edges!).

The eBook is pretty close to launching! I put the draft on my iPad last night and it was a pretty magical moment. Just a few more finishing touches (like um, editing), some logistics and bureaucracy and things should be in an online bookstore near you!

I feel like we are at this really exciting time in history where technology is revolutionizing content creation. I suspect this will mean that instead of a few "big guys" making a lot from media, we will see a lot of "little guys" making their own little piece of the pie. This is my attempt at becoming one of those "little guys..."!

I am also excited about this because it offers an opportunity to platform for food bloggers like myself to have a way of easily monetizing their content. If this is successful, I can partner with people all around the world to create their own guides for the cities they blog in. This is also extremely exciting because it would mean that when I visit San Francisco, New York, Vancouver, London... there would be something like this for me to buy and read before arriving (hello foodie holidays, I am drooling about you already!).

After much deliberation I have decided to reach out to the community to take things to the next level.

I have set myself a goal of $650. This money will cover the cost of getting the guide into the Tourist Info Centre down in the harbour so tourists can be connected to the fantastic food this city has to offer. I have 45 days to achieve this goal.

So! If you have enjoyed a meal at the recommendation of one of my blog posts, if you love this idea or if you're just plain feeling generous please, take a few minutes and kick in some funding!

Go go gadget LOGO!

I am stoked to share the logo design: Mr. Tastebuddy! I am beyond thrilled with it - he really has character as well as an approachability and endearing quality that I hope will really help my grand plan!

Initially I wasn't sure if it was a good idea to personify the logo. I was worried it might feel a bit goofy for a project that I want to feel pretty professional. Once I started in my process of brainstorming and Google image searching for inspiration I came across this cute little guy who made me think there might be something in having a sassy character as the personified buddy to guide readers tastebuds towards delicious food.

This is where it started - my initial sketch, which I shot over to Mr. Michael Tension. Using his most Professional of Art Directorial Opinions he added some much-needed punk rock attitude by tweaking the bookmark into a faux-mo-mark and directed me towards the graphic stylings of Ms. Tammy Dubinski, animatrix extraordinare, for the finished product you see before you today:

One step closer to a finished product! I am so impatient to be moving forward, but it's been slow going these past few months. I haven't had much spare time or headspace for writing, so I have been stuck at 90% done on a first draft since the beginning of November! I have proceeded with some of the more bureaucratic logistics like this website, registering the business name etc.

Having the logo done has certainly  made the entire project much more real again, and this morning I was able to get one more draft closer to a complete rough copy. That is the most important part of the process because then I can begin building the finished product with all of the glorious details that will add to the look and feel of a delicious field guide.
